9 Free Writing Courses: Copywriting, Content & More

By Charles Miller

If you go to college to learn writing, you'll probably pay somewhere between $50,000 and $200,000.

If you learn online, you can do it for free.

Plus, you can also:

  1. Learn more applicable writing (content and copy) that schools don't teach.
  2. Learn typical and business writing from top universities that offer free online classes.

Let's get into them.

Here are 3 free content writing courses, 3 free copywriting courses, and 3 free business writing courses...

Free Copywriting Courses

  1. The Secrets Of Copywriting by Copy That! on YouTube. This 5-hour YouTube video teaches you everything you need to know about writing sales copy. It has foundational knowledge, copywriting, differences between different types of copy, and a lot more.
  2. Complete Guide to Copywriting in 2024 by QuickSprout. If you'd rather read than watch, this is the one for you. It's not a conventional course. Instead, it's more like a gigantic blog post. Just like the one above, it covers just about everything, from psychology to formatting.
  3. Free 5 Hour Copywriting Course For Beginners by Mathew Online on YouTube. This is extremely similar to the first one I mentioned, but it's newer and has a different person teaching it. Consider watching 5 minutes of each of them, seeing which instructor you like better, and finishing that one.

Free Content Writing Courses

  1. How To Start & Scale Your Personal Brand by me. This 1-hour personal branding course covers branding and social media content writing. It also comes with 50 post templates for going viral, selling products/services, and more. Subscribe to my newsletter to get it.
  2. Content Writing Tutorial for Beginners by Simplilearn on YouTube. This short and useful course is only about 45 minutes long, so you can knock it out in a day if you want. Unlike general writing courses, it gives you recommendations that specifically work for online content.
  3. Blogging for business by Ahrefs Academy. Ahrefs is one of the biggest SEO software companies, and they use free education like this to get more users. Whether you use their SaaS tool or not, you can learn from this 5-hour course.

Free Business Writing Courses

  1. Business Writing by University of Colorado Boulder on Coursera. If you're a professional who wants to learn how to write in a business setting, this is a good option for you. It'll teach you persuasion and wording, but in a more formal context.
  2. High-Impact Business Writing by University of California Irvine on Coursera. This is very similar to the first one, but it comes from a different school and instructor. If youw ant, you can enroll in both, watch 10 minutes of both, and pick the one you like better.
  3. Good with Words by University of Michigan on Coursera. If you'd rather learn general writing best practices rather than business writing, check this one out. It'll give you the foundations, and you can apply those to any type of writing you want.

How To Use These

Don't take all of these.

That'll just overwhelm you.

Instead, pick one or two that fit your goals, start them, finish them, and apply them.

That's how you turn free education into real results.
